Amazing!

The mountains of Laojun are towering over the ages, and the onions are surrounded on all sides.

All the mountains in southern Yunnan are ancestors here, and cui wei is majestic.

Mount Laojun, a majestic mountain in ancient times.

Laojun Mountain (Lijiang Laojun Mountain) is known as "the ancestor of many mountains in Yunnan Province". Since ancient times, many tourists have admired its majestic beauty. Nowadays, Laojun Mountain, where "mountains can be turned in spring, flowers can be seen in summer, leaves can be seen in autumn, and snow can be sung in winter", still shows the immortal value of harmonious coexistence between man and nature and attracts the eyes of the world.

Laojun Mountain, called "Luojun Mountain" or "Lajun Mountain" in ancient times, is located at the junction of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County of Lijiang City and Jianchuan County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Lanping Pumi Autonomous County of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture and Weixi Lisu Autonomous County of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

The mountains are towering.

Laojun Mountain belongs to the main vein of Yunling in Hengduan Mountain System. The main body of the mountain is in Yulong County, with Jinsha River around its left and Lancang River around its right. Taishang Peak, the main peak, is 4247.2 meters above sea level, Taiyi Peak, the second main peak in the south, is 4212.8 meters above sea level, and the main ridge line of the mountain is about 4000 meters above sea level, which is semi-circular. It is not only a key area where geological activities such as the closure of the ancient Tethys Sea, the orogeny of Hengduan Mountain and the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau occur, but also one of the representative areas of alpine geomorphology types and evolution process.

In the long process of geological evolution, Laojun Mountain has formed today’s complicated geological landscape. Among them, the mountain Danxia landform developed in Himalayan orogeny in the late Tertiary (70 million to 3 million years ago). This geological movement caused some red strata to tilt and form gentle folds, and under the long-term erosion and weathering of running water, wind and ice and snow, concentrated and contiguous red sandstone cliffs, cliffs, stone peaks, alleys and valleys, stone columns and so on were formed. The glacial erosion landform was formed in the Quaternary Paleoglacial Period (2-3 million years ago), where ice and snow accumulated to form glaciers, and the glaciers flowed and eroded, forming ice candle depressions and ice bucket lakes. Later, with the warming of the climate, high-altitude tind emerged, forming a peak landscape near the top of Laojun Mountain and the top of Jinsichang.

Geology and geomorphology of Laojun Mountain

Laojun Mountain stands between Jinsha River and Lancang River in the "Three Parallel Rivers" world natural heritage area in northwest Yunnan, which is the watershed between the two rivers. Climbing the ridge of the main peak, you can overlook the majestic posture of Yulong in the north, the mirror of Jianhu in the east and the Biluo peaks in the west. Throughout the ages, countless tourists have been impressed by the magnificent momentum of Laojun Mountain.

Laojun Mountain is an emerald embedded in the plateau of northwest Yunnan. From the Jinsha River valley to the top of the mountain, the climate type changes from subtropical dry and warm valley to temperate zone and then to alpine cold zone, forming a complete vertical climate zoning and corresponding vertical band natural landscape. Alpine canyons, spring streams, alpine Danxia, glacial lakes, forest shrubs, alpine meadows and dreamy sea of clouds together form a beautiful landscape picture of Laojun Mountain.

In the mountain valley above 3800 meters above sea level on the northeast side of the main ridge line, there are more than 20 ice-fighting lakes of different sizes, which are distributed in strings along streams to form a rare glacial lake group, known as "99 Longtan". These glacial lakes have different shapes, and the water is deep and mysterious, showing brilliant colors of blue, orange, yellow and green against the sunshine and flowers and trees. Surrounded by fir forests and azaleas, the azaleas in baili are in full bloom every spring and summer, which can be described as the kingdom of azaleas, making people linger.

The dawn Danxia landform in the north of Laojun Mountain is 2200 ~ 3900 meters above sea level, which is one of the highest Danxia landforms in China (200 square kilometers). Among them, it is well known that Thousand Turtles Mountain, a large weathered boulder like a fish scale, has a cracked surface, like tens of millions of neatly arranged small turtles on a hillside, struggling to climb towards the rising east, and is vividly called "Thousand Turtles Race".

The peculiar Danxia landform landscape extends southward from Liming Scenic Area in Yulong County of Lijiang to Shi Baoshan in Jianchuan, forming the largest Danxia landform landscape belt in China with a length of more than 100 kilometers. Xu Xiake once described the grottoes here and the statue of Pishamen Tianwang Cliff in Nanzhao period, while the inscriptions on the cliffs, the ancient Bai ‘an Temple, the Defeng Temple, the Manxian Forest and other buildings from the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China all bear witness to history.

Laojun Mountain in Lijiang is one of the regions with the richest biodiversity resources in China, which is called "the reappearance of the original appearance of the earth" by botanists. It is rich in forest resources, diverse in species and large in storage, including about 18 vegetation types such as primitive fir forest, rhododendron forest and broad-leaved forest, with more than 2,100 species of plants and fungi. The dense forest in the Laojunshan Mountains allows all kinds of wild animals to thrive here. There are nearly 300 species of animals represented by Yunnan golden monkey.

In 2003, Laojun Mountain became one of the eight national scenic spots and key demonstration areas of the world natural heritage "Three Parallel Rivers". In 2004, the Ministry of Land and Resources (now the Ministry of Natural Resources) approved the establishment of Yunnan Yulong Liming-Laojunshan National Geopark. In order to give consideration to both protection and tourism development, Lijiang City is committed to building Laojunshan National Park into a tourist attraction with high grade, high quality and high differentiation, with eco-tourism, experience expansion tourism, leisure and holiday tourism and other tourism modes. In 2015, Laojunshan National Park became a national 4A-level tourist attraction. In 2022, Laojunshan Dawn Scenic Area was included in the list of pilot construction units of national forest health base.

Supporting tourist facilities

During the change of seasons, Laojun Mountain stands tall, calling for memories of ancient times. Plants, animals, monuments and mountains coexist here, each with a touch of color, and jointly draw a unique and beautiful picture of Laojun Mountain.
